Essick Air Whole House Humidifier
Making breathing easy
We live in a very dry climate and have always had a humidifier. We decided to get a bigger one for this winter so we bought this Essick Air and we love it. It holds more water than our old unit and is much easier to use. The automatic on/off feature makes it easy to forget it's there.
We bought a white one a placed it against a white wall so again because of the low fan noise it's completely out of our mind.

Has really helped
I purchased this humidifier because my dog's skin was so dry her hair was falling out. I also have breathing problems in the winter from the gas heat. A day after installing this humidifier, I could notice a great difference in my breathing. It felt so good to take a deep breath. Also, the air was heavier so there was not nearly as much dust flying around to breath in. After a short while, my dog's skin began to hydrate and she's feeling much better now. I've had whole room humidifiers before with little noticeable results, but this model not only maintains the set level within 3%, but also enhances the entire house (over 1000sq ft.

Purchased unit last year and used through heating season 2007-2008. Large two story house and humidity was kept up in accordance with outside temp, i.e., colder it got, lower humidity. I live in the Adirondacks so we do get cold weather! But, no problem, comfort was there. Ran constantly but probably because of house size. End of season did clean up and replaced wick. Started up again last fall and ran for a few days and then motor heated up and shut down (safety feature for sure). Let cool down couple of time and same result. [...]

Best Purchase - Ahhh the Comfort!
I suffered through half the winter with dry lips, morning cough, and complaining kids. This unit which sits unobtrusively in the upstairs hallway hums water back into our air and has made all the difference in the world!
It is awesomely designed with two lightweight (when empty) tanks, alerts you when one is empty while it still works on the other, and has the humidistat to keep the air very comfortable. It is better for our wood furniture and floors too. The fan is a little noisy when on full speed, but that is to be expected. I keep it on a lower speed and it is like soft white noise through the night.
I use the tub spout to fill it because using the included hose with a faucet would take forever. The tub fills it in less than 30 seconds and it is a 2.5 gallon tank. Drop in a few caps of the anti-bacterial and its good to go.
I did a lot of research, chose this one, and am very happy with it. The upstairs is five bedrooms, a large hall, and two bathrooms, and it is sufficient. I don't think it would do two floors, but downstairs heating unit has a humidifier built in.
Make sure you get a humidifier with variable fan speeds and a humidity sensor as this one has. It makes all the difference between a self-sufficient unit and one that needs constant attention.
