    Danby 30 Pint Portable Energy Star Dehumidifier 4.6 5 106 157
Does what it's made to do It's simply a dehumidifier. It's only been a few weeks, so I cannot attest to it's durability. However it is easy to operate, runs relatively quite, and most importantly gets the job done. When the tank is full, the dehumidifier and fan both turn off until you empty the tank. I have noticed when it is around 65 F or below in the room, the defrost light comes on, which I think in turn must turn off the dehumidifier (the fan still runs). I say this because it seems to pull water out of the air slower when it's doing this. I'm not positive this is the case, just making assumptions. Simple solution, run dehumidifier when room is above 65 F. November 13, 2012
dehumifier It is great, not real loud gets the job done& a great price, October 26, 2012
Wish I had bought sooner I have C.O.P.D. and live near Atlanta Ga. Stays humid year round here. This unite keeps my bedroom and 45% humidity all the time. Just needs a way to vent the warm air in the summer. I have to run the A/C with it, ever at 55 degrees at night. Winter is coming and it might keep the room warm enough to not run heat in there. I no longer wake up in the night gasping for air. Best thing I've done for my health. October 4, 2012
Amazing results We were amazed at just how much water we had in the air in our livingroom and kitchen. On the first day we had to empty the reservoir 3 times in a 24 hr period. Since then its been about 2 times every 12-14 hrs. That's a lot of water that we used to breathe in. ( We have a 30 pint size machine ). Ever since we've been using this machine we definately feel better, sleep better. Even our dogs have stopped wheezing at night ! As far as I'm concerned, every house should have one ! The air circulation fan (small power draw) runs continuously unless you shut the unit off. The compressor, which draws the majority of electrical power, does cycle as the need to lower humidity occurs, based upon the setting you choose. The unit does restart automatically after a power outage.

The unit's compressor will cycle on and off automatically when the unit reaches the humidity level you have set with the humidistat but the fan will remain running. If you wish to purchase a unit that will shut down completely once your area reaches the desired humidity level I would suggest viewing model: DEP400EW as it is one of the few units on the market that will offer that feature. Thank you for your question.

Yes, this item is direct drain capable. If you do not have a condensate or sump pump you would need to position the unit over a floor drain to allow gravity to take affect. The unit does not come with a pump.

Thank you for your questions. This unit could potentially work, however, it is very dependent on how damp your basement is. If it is really damp, I would suggest a larger unit. If it is just lightly damp and you have never had any mold or mildew issues this unit could potentially work for you.

Size wise, I think so. I think the more important questions (1) are how humid\wet is it, (2) how many different rooms are there (3) how cold does it get. If it is real wet, you will need a bigger unit. If there are lots of rooms, then you will need more units. The troubles I've had has to do with the coils freezing over. Then you get the worst of two worlds - the unit is using electricity, but not doing any dehumidification. I had to buy an appliance timer to cycle it on \ off every hour.

Although this is an excellent system for my closet and 9 x 12 office, a basement might be problematic. You might be emptying out the tank every 3 hours. When I lived in the upper Midwest, I had a dehumidifier in the basement, but it had a hose that went directly into the drain pipe. It was the only workable way to have a dehumidifier in that basement.

noise level. it's like having an electric heater blowing. With fan on high it's pretty loud, on low it's sounds like a normal fan blowing.

Yes it will heat up your room during the summer months. depending on the size of the room, you may not notice the difference. For example if it were in your closet, it'd feel pretty warm in there.

I can't give you a db level. But I can say the the fan noise is typical, and the compressor is barely audible.

Generally, dehumidifiers will make a room feel cooler by removing the moisture. There is an exhaust that may put off a small amount of heat, however, it is generally not enough to heat a room. As for the noise, this has a decibel rating of about 50. This unit is among the quieter ones on the market, though not the quietest.
