There are seven (7) wash settings to help clean your dishes: normal, intensive, economy, rinse, rapid wash, glass, and soak. Wish I had bought it sooner.
The Kenmore from 20 years ago was very noisy and leaked at the bottom of the door even after a new seal. Shopped for and selected the Danby DDW1899BLS. It is sold by many including Home Depot. Talked to one of their sales reps since it is only offered by them online. The rep was sky high on Danby and said it is as quiet as the priceyest. Be careful with the installation. The water inlet and electrical box are at the bottom front. The removeable lower panel can get in the way. Had to trim it a little. Customer service on the phone is very helpful.

cleans better than expected and looks as good as a name-brand that costs double the price. build quality appears the same as others.

Lives up to reputation
Have a small kitchen in a rural cabin in WY. This narrow unit fits the small space perfectly. Was originally looking for a counter-top or a used discontinued Kitchen-Aid "in-sink" unit. Found this narrow unit while "noodling" on-line, exactly what was needed.
Self-installation was easy if you have minor mechanical knowledge/ability, just like a full-size unit.
Dish rack stacking can only be described as strange and unlike a full-sized unit. It will be fine after getting used to it.
Wash time is long. Unit is quiet and unobtrusive, a blessing considering length of wash cycle; 2:15 - 2:45. Delay helps too or wash while away.
Unit came "double-boxed" in order to prevent damage (there was none) and arrived quickly.
Have no problems so far so can not speak to warranty service as some have done.

We purchased the Danby 18" dishwasher for the kitchen in a small apartment. Great solution. We're very happy with the quality of the appliance. Attractive stainless steel finish inside and out. Installation was very easy.

Could you please give me as much detail as possible of what exactly IS the water softeneing system in this dishwasher, how does it work, are their cartrdiges to be changed? Does it run on electricity? Is it a membrane? Please give technical details so I can understand how good it is. Thanks.

A:
You will need water softener salt; this can be purchased in grocery stores and some hardware stores. There are no cartridges to be changed and it does not use any electricity. The water mixes in with the salt to remove the calcium present in hard water.Q:
