EdgeStar 53 Bottle Built-In Wine Cooler
Great built-in wine cooler
Received updates of cooler's progress and arrival. Driver was willing to help move it to my condo, but I had help on hand. Pulling the door insulation rubber out to install the door handle is tricky, but otherwise this is a great cooler. Holds all the wines, mixers, juices that were taking up room in the fridge.

I've only had the unit for a couple days so I could not rate Product Quality. I will update this review if the unit goes bad. The warranty on the compressor is only one year which does concern me. More expensive units have a 5 year warranty on their compressors. I will keep the shipping container in my garage for a year. I have also identified a local company that says they can repair EdgeStar.
I bought this unit because I wanted a compressor based cooler that would keep my wine at 55F for storage. This unit claims it will work in 95F ambient. I am in the desert during the winter and when I leave for the summer I set my house thermostat to 88F. I think 88F ambient would be hard on a thermoelectric unit.
I thought this unit was made in Texas. Turns out it is made in China. Not sure I would have bought it had I known this. I wanted a Marvel but they are 3x the cost of the EdgeStar.
I waited 24 hours to plug it in as instructed. It came up set to 54F. I bumped it up to 55F. I was told it would retain the setting after a power outage. I was going to test this but I have the unit 1/2" from the wall and can"t remove the plug. Cooler is full so I am not going to attempt to move it. If it comes back on at 54F I am cool with that. It took about a half hour for the empty cooler to get to 55F. I was able to load 54 bottles in it. 8 per shelf and 6 on the bottom. I put the skinny bottles in the back and Pinots in the front. The Pinots tilt up a bit but they fit. Put red on top shelves and white on bottom. I had a couple fat whites that I put on the bottom shelf. Had to put one in backwards. The shelves only open 1/3 of the way but I knew that before buying. There is a post that stops them from coming all the way out. These appear to be screwed into the right side of the unit and looks like they can be removed with a Philips screw driver. I decided to leave it as is and created an Excel document that shows what bottles are where. The inside walls are plastic. Expensive units use metal. I'm fine with plastic.
A fully loaded unit took several hours to reach 55F. The compressor kicks on at the high end of 57F and shuts off at the low end of 54F. I have the unit in my living room next to my TV. Even if the TV is off the unit is VERY quiet. My fridge makes more noise. My dishwasher makes a lot more noise. The fan kicks in and out about every 10 seconds but it is a whisper. Doesn't bother me a bit. The compressor is also very quiet and seldom runs. The control panel read out is a bit bright but I like it. Makes a nice night light for those late night trips to the fridge. The unit does not vibrate at all when compressor is on. My wife likes how it looks. Very attractive. I will never use the light because it doesn't get past the top row. There is a small light that shows you when the compressor is on. Handle was easy to install but I was worried the seal on the door was going to rip when pulling it out to get at the screws for the handle. You have to tug hard to get it to come out. Went back in easier than it came out. I really like the product. Just hope it lasts. A friend has a Marvel and his has been running for 13 years with no problems. I have my fingers crossed.

We are very pleased with our purchase of the EdgeStar wine cooler.Since this is our first wine appliance, we don't have anything to compare it to. It has been installed for two weeks. The temperature is holding very close to 54 degrees, give or take a degree. I think the quality and design is just what we were looking for. Installation was no problem at all. It fits like a glove under our counter. I don't think we will ever be able to store 53 bottles of wine in it. Maybe if we choose the exact size bottles to accommodate it. I am happy to say how quiet it runs. I thought it would make more sounds than it does. So far so good on the EdgeStar.

Love almost all about it....
You must escentually remove the gasket from the miidle top to below the lower handle screw to attached exterior handle. Door works fine without the handle though. I would have designed a fnger scoop top for door opening it. Very cool very fast . No noise problem factors in. I would purchase this item again and from the same supplier also.
