Must have one Works great. Very pleased with this product so far. Only used it twice. Each time made 2 bags of ice. That was all we needed. Our use is for camping and boating. Fresh ice for the red solo cup... Thanks for the ice maker no more fish smell ice in your cup. March 31, 2013
Should have purchased this years ago Perfect for weekend camping, ice is perfect size & makes quickly. March 27, 2013
Wonderful product I ordered one for my home and one for my sister who does not have a ice maker. She has to drive 17 miles to buy ice. This is very easy to set up. Just let sit for a couple of hours, add water, select the ice size and enjoy ice as you need it. My sister bags the ice and stores it in her freezer. My family likes the ice rather than the refrigator ice and it keeps up with our needs. As you can tell I love the product and would recommend it to everyone. February 6, 2013

Yes it does. However, the tank maybe still full of water, or may still have enough water to keep making ice. When the ice fills up the storeage area, there is a senser that shuts the ice making process off. After a person gets some ice out of the storage area the machine will begin to make ice again, unless it needs water in the tank.

if the unit is running 24/7, it should be running out of water and you should be filling it up on a daily basis. You are putting fresh water in regularly. Now if the unit sits without use for 2 to 3 days, you should drain any remaining water out and put fresh in. Let it cycle through half a dozen times and discard the ice. If you really want to be sanitary, put a little bid of vinegar in it to remove calcium build up and impurities. Run it again until there is no more smell or taste of vinegar and you are good to go.

I used my first unit 24/7 to keep ice packs filled and I never changed the water. It still works but found out that it had been sitting on a placemat which had melted and could have started a fire.

If you have the unit on a continuous cycle, you probably want to change the water once a week. Also, you will want to clean the unit out when you change the water, just to be on the safe side. In addition, you will want to run a solution of a gallon of water, with a tablespoon of white vinegar and a tablespoon of baking soda, once per month.

You might as well shut it off and save energy because it's just going to keep recycling water as ice melts, besides it makes ice pretty fast when you return home!

If you leave it run 24/7 while you are gone, it will eventually run out of water and automatically turn off. It will stay off until refilled. Manufacturer suggests turning it off while you are gone anyway. Just make sure you flush it when you turn it back on with a small solution of vinegar and water to remove built up calcium in the water line.

I WILL SAY, NO! THE H20 RESERVOIR HAS A FINITE VOLUME AS WELL AS THE ICE COLLECTION CONTAINER. WHEN THE H20 EMPTIES AS THE ICE AREA FILLS TO CAPACITY THE UNIT WILL STOP OPERATING, GOES INTO A SLEEP OR STAND BY MODE. AT THAT POINT THE ICE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED & THE H20 REFILLED. THE MODEL DISPLAYED & THE UNIT I AM FAMILIAR WITH APPEAR TO BE THE SAME. THIS DEVICE HAS NO ABILITY TO SELF STORE THE ICE. ANYWAY, ICE PRODUCED FROM H20 DWELLING WITHIN THIS SMALL UNIT FOR AN EXTENDED TIME WOULD PROBABLY BE OF POOR QUALITY. 24/7 OPS COULD POSSIBLY CREATE PROBLEMS/SHORTEN THE LIFETIME OF THE MOTOR'S OPS. THE COMPACT APPLIANCE WEBSITE OFFERS A LINK TO AN ON-LINE MANUAL FOR THIS PRODUCT. HOPE THIS INFO IS USEFUL.

It's OK to leave it running 24/7 because the machine will actually shut itself off when it runs out of water or becomes full. I turn mine off when we leave for the weekend. It only takes 7 minutes to make ice, so turning it off for the weekend could prolong the life of the ice maker.

It's pretty easy to drain and clean. You simply use the drain plug at the bottom of the unit. As for cleaning, the best way to do so is to use a solution of white vinegar and baking soda in a gallon of water.

It is pretty heay to lift. It has a drain that you can open and drain the left over water. You need to wipe it dry with a towel. I clean mine with a bleach and water mix about every two months and then toss the first ice cubes it makes the next time I use it.
