Koldfront Ultra Compact Portable Ice Maker 4.4 5 448 576
We have ice We bought this due to the fact we live in a motor home and have limited freezer space. Now we have ice when we need it and don't have to take up room in the freezer for a large bag of ice that we buy from the store at high prices. We have only had it a couple of weeks, but so far it works very well. June 5, 2013
What a great machine We purchased this because we didn't have a refrigerator. It is FANTASTIC. Never run out of ice. As soon as you empty it, it starts right in to make more. I recommend this to everyone that needs ice. May 31, 2013
Better Than Expected Originally we bought this unit because the one in our refrigerator broke, and was quite expensive to replace. We had only planned on using it to stock up the freezer as needed. Then my brother broke his wrist and has had to have ice on it after his surgery......and the machine has been working non stop, and working just fine........it has exceeded our expectations!! Very Impressed Great value!!! Works perfectly for what I needed it for. A very impressive product! February 13, 2013

the ice doesn't stay cold in the maker, yes you have to put it in the freezer to keep it for longer than a couple of hours.

The ice will melt, the water will recycle and make more ice so when you get up in the morning, yes, you will still have a full basket of ice.

The portable ice maker is great, however, I have not seen one that freezes ice in its holding bin. If you leave the ice in more than several hours it will eventually melt and the machine will reprocess the water and re-form the ice. If you wanted to produce a lot of ice you would need to remove the ice when it formed and put it in your freezer.

Cleaning this unit is very simple. You can either take a disinfectant wipe and wipe it down. Or, you can run a cycle with a gallon of water, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and a heaping tablespoon of baking soda. Rinse it out and repeat two times, and that will also clean your ice maker.

You can use bottled water, but do not use distilled water. It needs some minerals in the water in order to work correctly.

If the water tastes bad, the ice probably would, too. You might want to go with bottled water for the ice maker.

    Hi budger,

If you are simply using the ice to cool the outside of bottles, cans, or other containers, then I would recommend sticking with the water in the area.

However, if the ice is being ingested you should probably not use the barely drinkable water in the area for the safety of your health.

    I hope this helps!

It makes some noise, and occasionally makes a loud buzzing noise (not sure why). The whrrring can be heard while the house is quiet...our kitchen is all part of a 'great room' design so basically you can hear it anywhere in the house. I think if the kitchen was a separate room it would not be that annoying. I may move it to the laundry room once summer gets going, it is a cooler room separate from the rest of the house.

This is straight from the manual:
    "Normal Sounds
Your new ice maker may make sounds that are not familiar to you. Most
of the new sounds are normal. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls can
make the sounds seem louder than they actually are. The following
describes the kinds of sounds that might be new to you and what may be
    making them.
    - The ice case motor will make a whirling noise when the ice case and
    shovel are moving.
    - Rattling noises may be produced from the flow of the refrigerant.
    - The compressor may make a pulsating or high-pitched sound.
    - The compressor may also produce a low tone humming sound.
    - Water that is being pumped into the ice case will make trickling,
    dripping or splashing sounds.
    - As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurgling sound due to the
    refrigerant flowing.
    - You may hear fan noise and air being forced over the condenser by
    the condenser fan.
    - During the harvest cycle, you may hear the sound of ice cubes falling
    into the ice basket.
    - If the ice maker is run without water, the water pump will make a
screeching noise. Note: Do not run the unit without water!"

Thanks for asking. Hope this helps!
