Koldfront Ultracool 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier 4.6 5 83 137
Works great The A/C unit works great. I saw other reviews about how the flexible plastic vent was difficult to attach and a lot of duct tape was needed...but actually it works fine. No duct tape needed. You just have to line it up and 'screw' it in. I installed it in a 2500 sq ft metal building. The 14,000 btu a/c is only rated for 400-500 sq ft... so it can't cool the whole area, but it helps a lot and reduces the humidity enough to make it acceptable when working in the Texas heat. I had to cut a 6 in hole in the building for venting and a smaller hole for water drainage. Overall, I'm happy with it but I probably need to buy another one so I can cool the whole area. A Bargain at This Price When it arrived I had some concern about the packaging. The bottom of the box it came in was so corroded and tattered that it just fell apart. But it didn't seem to have damaged the unit. It came just in time for another heatwave in southern California. I only had it for a month so I don't know yet how energy efficient it is. Cools my 400SqFt insulated Garage My old 9000BTU's unit was not doing it. With 96-92 outside, it would only cool down to 82-80, but with this 14000BTU's unit, it's now 76. September 8, 2012
very pleased excellent unit, we use it in your master bedroom which is 480 sq ft. It cools it very well the only drawback was was keeping it from throwing the breaker at the electrical panel since we live in a tract home and everyone know how well those are wired. I solved this problem by running it's own circuit on a 20 apm breaker, no more problem. Thanks Air Shop for the great product Dave in Arizona August 29, 2012

I have had NO problems with draining this unit....when used as an air conditioner, it dissipates the water, and works quite effectively. You might have to drain it if you use it as a dehumidifier, and it comes with a drainage tube.

No - This unit does not drain water out of the window. The unit may produce some condensation over time. There is a water bucket that will need to be emptied for this purpose. Usually you can run the unit for months at a time depending on your humidity without having to drain the unit.

No hose has to be connected to drain the unit.

If there is a removable bucket, I haven't seen it. I attached the discharge hose to the top drain and have it draining into a bucket. I live in the Southeast with high humidity. I need to empty that bucket at least twice during the day.

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting the Living Direct Network. The edgestar units generally hold about a quart of water before the compressor turns off. That is a safety feature to keep it from overflowing and leaking. The water is removed by taking a shallow pan and pulling the plug from the back/bottom of the unit to drain it. Remember that the unit also gets rid of condensation by first evaporating the condensation over the compressor and sending it out with the hot air.

    exhaust hose issue

    Details:
The exhaust hose is almost impossible to secure in to the round plastic piece that attaches to the window - then it pops out! Any suggestions? It takes me 30 min. to squeeze the darn thing back in the plastic piece.

The hose should not be pushed in, You have to screw it in. Fit the end rib of the hose between the 2 ribs inside of the couplers. I don't have to with me to verify this, but I believe you must turn counterclockwise to get it to screw in. It'll will tighten as you bottom out... resulting in a secure fit. Don't overdo it or it may jump back out.

Not sure why it wont go through, as it should fit in there securely. To ensure that it stays in place once installed, you can use duct tape to hold it in place.

The exhaust hose adaptor shrinks from a 5" hose to a 2" opening that fits the window adaptor. How can it work with an 8" wide window sash?

Use the foam insulation strips to construct a tight fit that clears the window sash. I took my time, and used duct tape as well as the foam strips supplied with the unit.. I don't like duct tape, but it worked fine and comes in colors.

This air conditioner with strips of foam and some foam tape. You can use this to fill the gap left in the window by the window kit.

Please see the attached images for a demonstration of the problem and for an image of the foam.
