    Koldfront Ultracool 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner w/ Dehumidifier 4.4 5 103 130
Good Price The airconditioner puts out some cold air for it's size. It definately would not do a large room but we have a fan pulling it through to another part. The hose is a pain however and sometimes it blows off. We had to tape it on. But for the money it is ok. August 25, 2011
Great & portable...does the job I gave a low rating for installation only because I had to add tracks to the left and right side to my windows in order to fit the window kit to my Pella 1 inch window sill. I could not fit one of the sides of the kit into the PLASTIC exterior window case. It came with a thick foam and a thin foam but no instructions pertaining to the proper installation. My master BR is 20 x 22 w/ 12ft ceiling. The sun hits this room from 12 noon to 4 pm. I have room darkening rubberized insulation lining drapes with magnets in the pockets left and right in order to block out the heat. I turn the unit on around 8 pm and close the door. Around 11 pm it cools down to a comfy 76 or 74 from a humid 86. If I wanted it cooler I could set it lower and earlier after the sun goes down. I was surprised that this unit has a dehumidifier which is referred to as DRY mode. I chose the 8000 btu model to save on electricity. I do use a ceiling fan to help circulate the air. I received this unit right before a heat wave located in New Jersey. Next year, I'll install it in another smaller BR in the back away from the HOT afternoon sun. August 17, 2011
Exceeded expectations Got this because of the heatwave in Washington, DC and it was worth it! Compact Appliance is excellent! I got it in 2-3 days from the time I placed the order. Just wish I would have gotten one at the beginning of summer. Easy to set up and install. Hooked output hose right into double-hung window (bottom). Easy as pie. I am in a small condo. Already had a window unit in the LR but no air circulated to the bedroom so I got this. This unit is awesome. Gets nice and chilly with setting at 76 degrees within a few minutes. Easy to roll from room to room if you need to. So far so good - have had it for about 3 weeks and I am LOVING it!! Have not tried to fan or dehumid. yet. WHen A/C is run continuously need to empty drainage (use bucket) about every 24 hours. Not a big deal. August 15, 2011
It works, and it's noisy Shipping process was painless, it just showed up at my door in a huge box one day. Quite happy about this...it was so much bigger than I expected. There's no way I would have been able to bring it home from a brick and mortar store. This thing works really well. It has 3 modes of operation, plus an "auto" mode that I haven't explored. Cool: it works really well. Gets the room colder than I need it to be (mid 70s) Dehumidify: This actually cools the room. Seems like it's a slightly less powerful version of "Cool". I just use this option most of the time. Fan: I never use this mode because it doesn't actually suck in air from outside. Often, the outside air is pretty cold but the air in my room is hot. Fan just seems to push around inside my room, and it's not that useful for me. Installation: Quite easy Water/draining: I haven't had to do that yet. Moisture is supposedly ejected through the exhaust air pipe, but there's an internal tank if there's too much moisture for the exhaust pipe to handle. When the internal tank gets full, the system shuts off automatically and you have to drain the tank manually. Main con: It's quite noisy, although this comes in useful if you're trying to sleep and your apartment neighbors are noisy at night, it totally drowns them out! August 15, 2011

The exhaust hose adaptor shrinks from a 5" hose to a 2" opening that fits the window adaptor. How can it work with an 8" wide window sash?

It shouldn't matter how thick the sashes are as long as you have the adapter where it should be and the exhaust isn't coming back into the house.

This air conditioner with strips of foam and some foam tape. You can use this to fill the gap left in the window by the window kit.

Please see the attached images for a demonstration of the problem and for an image of the foam.

    The window vent kit?

It will fit a window up to 38" but you can buy an extension that will fit up to 83" windows/sliding doors.

The window kit included with this unit accommodates a window size of 38" at the max.

We offer a Large Window / Sliding Door Vent Kit for EdgeStar and Koldfront Portable ACs (APPK2010) but it doesn't work of the box with this particular portable air conditioner. However if you purchase any of the portable air conditioner models shown below you can use the large window kit and that will accommodate windows with a max size of 83".

    AP8000W, AP12000S, AP12000HS, AP14001HS, AP14000W, and AP14009COM.

My husband has a music studio in our garage, and in the Texas heat it is almost impossible to be out there. I was wondering if instead of putting the exhaust hose through a wall or window (since we don't have windows in the garage and the wall would mean going through the brick on the side of the house) could we make a hole large enough in the door that exits the studio into the garage and have it release the hot air that way? Or will the hose not work in anything but a window?

It's easiest to vent it through a window but it can go through a wall. I don't see why you couldn't do that because the point is to keep the heat out of the room being cooled but it is going to be pumping hot air into your garage. Also, IF you vent it that way, you'll have to vent your garage (leave a window cracked). It would probably be easier to get one of the other ACs they have that hang on the wall (see image) but only require a very small hole through the wall.

You can certainly exhaust the unit in that way. Keep in mind, however, that you do not want to run the exhaust hose longer than 8 feet. That said, all you have to do is remove the hot air coming off the compressor out of the room you are trying to cool.

I would say the plastic window accessory is about 2 feet long or so, but since i had to put it in vertically into my basement window - and there's only about 16inches there... i had to cut it with a saw - it was very easy to do. Worth it :)

For a typical window (up/down), it is approximately 27-28" if you don't want to cut any plastic. If you cut the plastic mounting you could get it down to about 9".
