Summer droughts can mean water use restrictions in your community. To conserve this precious resource, consider using energy efficient appliances. Compact appliances like portable dishwashers and washing machines use less water than their full-size counterparts but perform just as well. A tankless water heater is another option as they can provide plenty of continuous hot water for your family, but do not keep unused water sitting in a tank. If you need to water your lawn or garden, place a rain barrel outside to collect rain water and then reuse what is collected to keep your garden growing and your lawn green. In high-humidity areas, a dehumidifier can also be used to collect water for your lawn. (Note: Dehumidifier water should not be used to water edible plants, such as vegetables.) Be considerate of your community during a drought by conserving and reusing water.
