Basement Dehumidifiers Keep the Indoor Air Clean & Dry in the Smallest of Spaces
Indoor air quality plays a huge role in determining how comfortable and welcoming your home environment is. When most people think of means of improving their indoor air quality, they may not think of using crawlspace or basement dehumidifiers. These machines dry air out by cooling it to a lower temperature, which forces water vapor to condense, before bringing the air back to room temperature. In spaces where circulation is limited, such as basements and crawlspaces, the effects of a dehumidifier can be very noticeable and beneficial.
Improvements in personal health can be one of the biggest benefits of crawlspace and basement dehumidifiers. Controlling your home humidity levels can help you enjoy clean, breathable air instead of musty air full of potentially harmful microorganisms. When humidity levels are too high, mold and mildew may take root in your basement. When these fungi grow, they release spores into the air, which can lead to respiratory health issues, including asthma and allergic reactions. Even for people who do not have allergies, mold and mildew may lead bring about uncomfortable symptoms, including headaches, skin irritation, and eye irritation. Using a dehumidifier creates an environment that does not support mold or mildew growth. A dry environment also discourages dust mites, which, like mold and mildew, may contribute to allergies and respiratory problems.
Aside from offering health benefits, basement and crawlspace dehumidifiers can do wonders when it comes to improving your home environment. Using a dehumidifier benefits your wallpaper, paint, wood floors, and even wood furniture, which can become warped or stained when exposed to excessive humidity. A crawlspace or basement dehumidifier will also make your basement feel more like a finished part of the home, rather than a half-forgotten extension. You’ll feel more comfortable when you use the space, and you may even spend less on your energy bills during the summer, since air feels cooler when it contains less moisture.
Here at Living Direct, we carry various options to meet your needs, whether you need to dehumidify a small, enclosed area or an entire floor. We stock compact portable dehumidifiers that work perfectly for smaller rooms. We also carry larger basement dehumidifiers that can remove dozens of pints of moisture from the air daily, ensuring that your basement air stays as dry as you want it to. If portability and access are concerns, you will appreciate our selection of dehumidifiers that do not need to be hooked up to an HVAC system or drain outlet. If you want a dehumidifier that can continue running while you are at work or out of town, meanwhile, we offer models with hoses built in that can be set up for convenient automatic drainage.
Whether you are concerned with your health, comfort, or general home environment, a dehumidifier represents a smart investment. It's easy to convert your basement area into a more clean, comfortable, and welcoming part of your home.
General Summary of Proposition 65
The “California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” (more commonly referred to as ‘Proposition 65’)
was enacted to ensure that customers be properly warned when a product contains a substance known to cause cancer or
reproductive harm. The law requires the State of California to publish and maintain (annually) a list of substances
to be available to the general public. Additionally, the law requires that businesses properly notify residents of
the State of California about the presence of these substances in the products they purchase, or that may be present
in their homes, workplaces, or that otherwise may be released into the environment. The specific list contains a wide
range of naturally occurring and synthetic substances including manufacturing and construction chemicals, pesticides,
tobacco, food-additives, solvents, household products, drugs and byproducts created from a specific product usage.
You may have noticed the below warning label on our products, or on products from other manufacturers. The warning
has become increasingly commonplace and oftentimes raises questions about why the warning exists, and what it means
to a customer. The warning itself is just one of many requirements for businesses operating in and/or selling products
to customers in the the State of California. The warning does not mean that a product that includes the warning will
cause cancer or reproductive harm, but rather it simply is provided in order to educate the consumer that a substance
may exist. A large number of the substances listed under Proposition 65 have been in regular use for many years
without any documented harm to a consumer. This is due to the low concentrations and minimal exposure that actually
occurs with these substances. Those chemicals, however, have been determined by the State of California to be listed
as potentially harmful.
I don’t live in California. Why did my product include this warning?
In order to ensure compliance with Proposition 65 requirements we have determined that all products manufactured by
Living Direct Inc, including products sold under the EdgeStar, Avallon and Koldfront brands, should include the
above-referenced warning label. This labeling requirements exists for all of our products regardless of the
location / destination to which the product is ultimately sold and/or shipped.
We believe that our products, when used as designed, are not harmful and as such this warning is provided
in order to properly conform to the requirements of Proposition 65.
